The Miz is a native of Parma, Phio and attended Miami University. He later relocated to California and to attend acting classes. He was known for appearing on many reality shows such as 'The Real World', 'Fear Factor' and others. Pursuing the goal of becoming a professional wrestler which he had harbored from an early age, Mizanin joined Ultimate Pro Wrestling, where he trained in the Ultimate University. He made his in-ring debut in 2003. In 2004 he joined the television show 'Tough Enough' were the winner would get a WWE developmental contract and $1,000,000.00. Despite not winning 'Tough Enough', the Miz caught the eyes of the WWE anyways and was offered a developmental contract anyways and was sent to Deep South Wrestling. In January of 2006 the Miz was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling where him and his tag team partner Chris Cage won the OVW tag team championship. In March of 2006 WWE.com featured a video of stating that he was headed to Smackdown and throughout April Smackdown hyped his debut. However, when Mizanin actually attempted to make his debut on the April 21, 2006 edition of SmackDown he was (kayfabe) barred from entering the arena by "network executive Palmer Cannon who told him that he had been "canceled" before having security escort him from the premises. He eventually became a host on Smackdown, doing backstage interviews and WWE diva bikini contest. He hosted the Diva search contest along with Ashley and was kind of seen as a dork by everyone as he would stumble his lines alot and call the divas by the wrong names, he appeared to always be really nervous. When he started to actually have matches, though routinely the underdog, he somehow found ways to win his first five matches. He finally lost one to the Boogeyman at Armageddon. Miz was drafted from SmackDown to ECW on June 7, 2007 as part of the WWE draft. He started a new gimmick for himself of a self-proclaimed "chick magnet". Extreme Expose then became managers for The Miz and the Miz seemed like a man of a new self confidence. He then began feuds with Balls Mahoney, CM Punk and John Morrison. He was voted at Cyber Sunday to face CM Punk for the ECW Championship but lost the match.In November of 2007 the Miz and John Morrison teamed up on Friday Night Smackdown and beat Matt Hardy and MVP for their tag team titles.
